Quantum Hardware Course!
Hello Quantum Formalists,
I am thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new FREE course series aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of the fascinating world of quantum hardware!
Course Motivation: We know today that quantum information processing machines can be realised in Nature, and in the past few years, several quantum hardware approaches have been attempted with successful results. For this reason, Zaiku Group is planning a new quantumformalism.com course series where we intend to clarify the basic concepts behind the most promising eligible quantum hardware models, namely, Quantum Optical Models, Ion Traps, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Superconductivity, etc.
In this first part, the course will focus on Quantum Optical Models. In particular, the following three case studies: a simple harmonic oscillator, photons & nonlinear optical media, and cavity quantum electrodynamics devices. For each system, the approach taken in the course will comprise the following steps: the physical apparatus description, the Hamiltonian governing its dynamics, the means for controlling the system to perform quantum computation, and finally, its principal drawbacks.
Prerequisites: Because some previous knowledge about quantum mechanics and quantum optics concepts is necessary, we will carefully introduce and describe these steps in about 20-24 lectures of 2 hours each and some additional ones for homework sections, when required. The primary reference for this course will be: Nielsen, M. A. and Chuang, I. L. (2010). Quantum Computation and Quantum Information: 10th Anniversary Edition. Cambridge University Press. In particular, we will follow the first five sections of Chapter 7.
We'll also review infinite dimensional complex Hilbert spaces and Self-Adjoint Operators. Enrolment & Certification: Although the recording of the live lectures will be available on our YouTube channel, to participate in the live sessions and get certified, you need to apply and be committed to going through the entire course. Course Instructors: Carlos Besa (principal lecturer), who is theoretical physicist by training with research topics around General Relativity, Quantum Field Theory, Nonlinear and Quantum Optics, and Quantum Fluids.
Max Arnott (mathematical assistant), who is PhD mathematical researcher focused on Bounded Operators on Banach spaces and Quotient Banach Algebras.
