Hello Quantum Formalist,
It's been nearly four years since we launched the QF community during the 2020 pandemic. At that time, we questioned whether there would be a significant interest in learning the abstract mathematics pivotal to quantum information science and other nascent technologies. Our doubts proved unfounded. The enduring engagement of our initial members, who continue to actively participate in our courses, coupled with the enthusiasm of new members eager to join QF, is a clear testament to our community's success and relevance.
The QF community is made up of diverse members from pretty much all corners of the world, including (in alphabetical order) the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, India, Mexico, Morocco, South Africa, UK (United Kingdom) and the US (United States).
Today marks an exciting evolution for our community as we embrace a bold new initiative rooted in trust and collaboration. We are delighted to unveil 'QF Cities' – a localised extension of the online QF community. This initiative aims to unite existing QF members within their cities, fostering local hubs for learning mathematics and quantum information science. QF Cities will offer tailored programs, including specialised mathematical courses tailored to local members' interests, hackathons, and meetups. QF is committed to supporting these core activities, collaborating with local mathematicians for the courses and sponsoring hackathons to bring a more personalised and community-driven experience to our members worldwide.
We are seeking volunteers interested in running QF programs in their cities. The only condition is the following:
If you are selected to run QF programs in your city, each time you request sponsorship to run an activity like a course or hackathon, you must provide us with proof that at least ten people have signed up for such activity. The evidence includes the online profiles of the participants and their educational/professional backgrounds.
If the above sounds good, you can apply via https://quantumformalism.com/qf-cities. I will be holding a special Q&A session over the coming weeks with Jac Novak, our new community experience lead/manager.
Timelines
The deadline for applications is Friday, March 22, at 23:59 UK time.
The interview stage runs from April 12 to April 26.
The notification for those selected to run the first QF Cities program is Friday, May 17.
The kickstart for QF Cities will be Friday, June 21. From this date, the successful applicants can start requesting our support to run their local QF programs.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with us or wait until the Q&A session.
Many thanks,
Bambordé
