Abstract: In a quantum network, the main requirement for many applications is to generate end-to-end entanglements for users connected to the network. In this work, we study how to generate end-to-end entanglements optimally at a quantum switch, a core component of quantum networks. A quantum switch generates end-to-end entanglements by performing measurement operations on qubits of elementary entanglements created on optical links connected to the switch. We assume that one elementary entanglement is created on a link probabilistically in each time-slot and that qubits of elementary entanglements decipher after one time-slot. Assuming that requests for end-to-end entanglements are processed in the first-come-first-served order, we propose a Max-Weight scheduling policy and show that it enables the switch to generate end-to-end entanglements in optimal manner. Speaker bio: Thirupathaiah Vasantam is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Durham University, UK. Before this, he worked as a Postdoc in the College of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA. He received his PhD from the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada, in November 2019. He obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Engineering from Osmania University and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, respectively. His research focuses on performance modelling and analysis of communication networks with applications to Cloud computing, Internet of Things, Data centers, Sensor networks, and Quantum networking.
